The Mellem DNA
The name Mellem means “middle” and is inspired by the book Livet mellem husene by Danish architect Jan Gehl. Loosely translated, it means “Life Between Buildings.” Gehl is a contemporary architect, urban planner, entrepreneur and professor emeritus of urban design at the Royal Danish Academy School of Architecture in Copenhagen. His work has shaped a new way of thinking about the design of urban spaces. On a trip to Denmark, Gehl’s philosophy inspired Hugo Girard Beauchamp, founder of Maître Carré, to create a new community-based rental brand.
We’re committed to providing rental living spaces focused on community and sustainability for all ages. We believe that diversity is the key to creating vibrant, dynamic environments. We even organize committees and events to bring generations together, all to suit the rhythm of your life.
Mellem buildings are designed to respect our incredible planet. All our spaces are built for maximum energy efficiency, from plumbing to heating systems. And we don’t stop there: Each Mellem also has its own urban agriculture space and a compost service. We build places where you can truly grow.
Designing a Mellem takes time, ideas and a lot of know-how. The creative team at Maître Carré work behind the scenes of each project to design environments that enhance your well-being.

With an on-site management team and a resident concierge, you’re always welcome to drop by for a chat. But if you can’t, the Mellem Portal is 100% here for you to contact our team. From service requests to room rentals, this is the channel to receive a reply ASAP.
We take security seriously. Since your peace of mind is always top of mind, we’ve installed a seamless round-the-clock security system: electronic chip access, cameras in common areas, an on-site management team, a resident concierge and a secure parcel room. Because life is never predictable.
If you have a repair request, simply contact our maintenance team via the Mellem Portal by opening a request. A resident concierge is always there to answer your call for more urgent requests. And for real emergencies, we call 911.
We can’t offer you the best living environment all by ourselves. That’s why we’ve developed partnerships with innovative local companies that share our desire to please. Learn more here.
The units
We have different units for different realities. At Mellem Ville-Marie we offer studios and 3 1/2, 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 units. Discover the plans right here.

We like to make life easy for our tenants, a bit like an all-inclusive. That’s why each unit includes electricity, heating and air conditioning, hot water, five appliances, internet, plus light fixtures, window treatments and built-in furniture when it’s part of the plan. All this, plus access to common facilities and areas.
Unfortunately not. Appliances are included in each unit and are not optional.
Absolutely! We accept four-legged friends (under 20 lbs) on special pet-friendly floors in our projects. It’s yet another way we respect everyone’s preferences… and the spirit of community! Talk to our team when you visit.
If capacity allows, your guests can enjoy all the building’s facilities as long as you’re with them. You’re about to become their new best friend!
Of course! We’ve created spaces designed for telecommuting with high-speed internet in each unit and throughout the common areas. With warm places to work, gather, chat or decompress, you’ll never be bored.
